With summer right around the corner it is crucial to have air conditioning in your home while living in Florida. With the temperatures rising and the humidity ceaseless, the air conditioner is the only way to stay cool inside of your home. Within one day your air conditioner could become a problem and stop working in the blink of an eye.
Here are some common problems and solutions for air conditioners:
Blowing hot air
If your air conditioner is blowing hot air it could be a simple fix; your refrigerant could need to be recharged. If you recharge your refrigerant and your air conditioner blows cold air again, but only for a short period of time this means you have a leak somewhere that is hindering the chemicals from reaching the solution. Check for any leaks in your cooling system.
Filter
Air filters need to be changed periodically in order for your AC unit to function properly. With an old filter or a clogged filter it will restrict the air flow that you are receiving and it will not operate correctly. If your air filter is not properly cared for it can also cause your unit to continuously turn off. A quick and easy fix for this is removing the filter and cleaning it yourself with some dish soap and water. Make sure to let it dry fully before putting it back.
Breaker box
Check your breaker box to see if it has shut off or if the circuit is pulling more electricity than it’s capable of. If the breaker box shuts off on its own it’s doing so to protect the circuit from overheating and possibly causing an electrical fire. It could be overloaded with energy. Try turning it off and back on again and see if this works.
Drain line
Look underneath the air conditioning unit for a water pan to see if a pump is clogged. Empty the pan and flush out any algae with white vinegar. To prevent clogs from happening you can simply add vinegar in the drain every few months to keep the drain from accumulating buildup.
