At Sun Plumbing, we pride ourselves on honesty, reliability, and quality work. We won’t lie to you just to get your business. So, the answer to your question does a backed-up drain require a plumber? Yes and no!

It will simply depend on the cause of the backup and how bad it is. Sometimes you can take care of it yourself, and sometimes you may need to call us. Let’s take a closer look at the problem.

Common Situations and if they require a plumber

My shower drain is draining slowly

We have all experienced this at one time or another. Quite often the cause of such a slow-moving drain is too much hair. This is something you can fix yourself by removing the drain cover. If you can’t easily pull the hair out, then buy a Zip-It tool which is a very simple plastic tool designed to help pull hair out of drains.

My sink is draining slowly

It is possible that your sink is having the same issue with hair being washed down it. If the hair isn’t the issue, then you can try a natural solution. Pour ½ cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by ½ cup of vinegar. Plug the sink and let it sit overnight. In the morning, flush the drains with hot water. If that doesn’t work, then Yes you may want to call Sun Plumbing.
