Faucet Leaks Increases Water Bill

Ways to Reduce Your Water Bill & Water Waste – Part 1

If you have noticed an increase in your water bill or recently discovered that your bill is higher than your neighbors with a similar-sized home, then you likely have some water waste occurring.  At Sun Plumbing we understand how frustrating that can be, so we want to tell you a few ways that you can reduce your water waste by identifying plumbing issues.

Dripping Faucets Aren’t Normal

Drip, drip, drip, drip…it gets monotonous and annoying, doesn’t it?  That kitchen sink that won’t stop when you’re watching a movie or that bathroom sink that keeps you awake at night is not acceptable!  And, it is not normal.  A properly working faucet will not drip when the handle is turned to the off position.  This wastes water and can add to your water bill.  A dripping faucet is often a very minor repair, such as replacing an o-ring, gasket, or washer.  If none of those minor part replacements fix the leak, then you should give us a call to determine if you have a larger plumbing issue.

Running Toilets

A running toilet makes constant noise.  A properly working toilet will cease making noise once the tank is refilled after flushing.  According to www.lakeviewwatercorp.com, a running toilet can waste up to 200 gallons per day!  You definitely don’t want to let this problem continue.  Again, this is often a minor repair.  Sometimes it is as simple as putting a little bend in the arm that holds the “flapper.”  Sometimes that whole piece may need to be replaced, but that is a relatively inexpensive and easy repair.

Pipe Leaks

Pipe leaks are basically your worst-case scenario for water waste and a high water bill.  If you have a leaky pipe, then you will actually see a substantial increase in your water bill to the point that you will realize that something is amiss.  Sometimes you can even hear a leaky pipe as it will sound like you have water running through your wall.  If you suspect a leaky pipe, then please give us a call right away.  We will send someone out to do leak detection, and complete any necessary repairs for you!
