Water Heater Leak

Water heater repair and replacements are some of the more frequent plumbing services we receive in Melbourne, FL.  Doing a water heater repair or replacement is definitely a job for a professional.  Let’s look at the reasons you might need to have your water heater repaired or replaced.

Water Heater Drain Leak

This is a clear sign that you need a repair. If the water heater is leaking from the drain valve (looks like a water spigot at the bottom of the water heater tank), then you need a plumber to replace the faulty drain valve.  Lucky for you, this is a fairly inexpensive, albeit necessary, repair.

Irregular Water Heater Temperatures

If your water temperature seems to be fluctuating, this could be a sign that there is an accumulation of mineral deposits covering your water heating elements.  The water heating elements can be repaired or replaced if necessary.  The tank can be cleaned to help remove mineral deposits.

Discolored Water

This can be a sign of rust or mineral deposits.  If mineral deposits are the culprit, cleaning the tank may solve the problem.

Running Out of Hot Water

Isn’t that the worst when all you want is a long, hot shower?  If you are running out of hot water too quickly (an hour-long shower doesn’t indicate a water heater issue!), then one of your heating elements may need to be replaced.

Water Heater Replacement

There are times when our water heaters are just plain DONE.  When this is the case, you need to call a professional plumber.  Water heater replacements require a permit, must meet state and local codes, and should be professionally installed.  Here are a few reasons for replacing your water heater.

Water Heater Tank Leak

While a drain valve leak only requires a repair, a tank leak requires a water heater replacement.  A tank leak may be substantially larger than a drain valve leak.  Think water running out from under your garage door as opposed to a small puddle at the base of the water heater.  You get the idea!

Discolored Water (Rust)

While mineral deposits may only require a thorough tank cleaning, rust in your tank will require replacement.  Rust can be hazardous to your health.  If you are noticing a rust color or smell in your water, call a plumber immediately.

Too Many Repairs

If you have had multiple repairs done to your water heater, then it may be time to replace it.  It may even be less expensive to replace it than to have multiple repairs done as that incurs not only the cost of parts but also of multiple service visits.
